High-Precision Equine CT Positioning & Synchronized Motion System
The Equus CT Scan Table is an independent, motorized positioning and motion platform engineered specifically for equine computed tomography. Designed for academic institutions, veterinary teaching hospitals, and research facilities, the system executes precise linear translations during scout and full CT scans without requiring electrical, optical, or software interfacing with the host CT scanner.
Technical Specifications
- Overall Dimensions: 244 cm (L) × 178 cm (W) × 97 cm (H)
- Height: 97 cm nominal based on the CT scanner table.
- Weight: ~1400 kg
- System Load Capacity: ~953 kg (2,100 lbs)
- Linear Scan Range: 90 cm
- Carousel Lateral Motion: ±77 mm
- Scout / Topogram Scan Velocity: Up to 120 mm/s
- Helical / Axial Scan Velocity: Up to 50 mm/s
- Power Requirements: 100-120 VAC or 220-240 VAC, 10A, single phase
- Mobility: Heavy‑duty castors with locking mechanism
No Scanner Interfacing: Eliminates compatibility constraints and preserves original CT equipment manufacturer warranties.
Experimental Precision: Controlled linear motion minimizes motion artifacts and ensures high repeatability across longitudinal study cohorts.
Multi-Positioning Capability: 360° continuous rotation and transverse lateral adjustments accommodate both dorsal and lateral recumbency research protocols.
Mechanical & System Architecture
The unit comprises three primary modular assemblies:
1. Fixed Base Cart Frame
Structure: Heavy-duty welded steel under-structure built to handle dynamic loads.
Housing: Integrated electrical enclosure protecting control units and power electronics.
Mobility & Rigidity: Heavy-duty, industrial-grade castors with floor-locking mechanisms.
Height Profile: Nominal height of 97 cm (configurable to align with specific gantry iso-centers).
2. Electromechanical Carriage & Motion Control
Drive Mechanism: High-torque servo-motor drive system.
Coupling System: Synchronized to CT couch displacement via an integrated linear displacement transducer.
Vibration Control: Ramped acceleration and deceleration algorithms (3-6 cm ramp-up/ramp-down travel depending on programmed speed) to eliminate mechanical shock to the subject.
Note for Scan Protocol Setup: Scan ranges on the CT console must be adjusted outward to account for the 3-6 cm velocity ramp zones.
3. 360° Rotating Carousel
Rotational Range: Continuous 360° manual/guided rotation.
Transverse Motion: ± 77 lateral displacement along the X-axis for fine gantry alignment.
Fixation Hardware: Perimeter mounting channels designed for modular head, limb, and rump support attachments.
